Test methods
Understanding the difference
Most programs use a combination. The right mix depends on board design, available test access, production volume and required defect coverage.
In-circuit testing
Verifies individual components and connections on the assembled board. It can help identify solder shorts, missing or incorrect components, and open connections.
Functional testing
Evaluates whether an assembly performs according to its intended operating requirements by applying defined inputs and verifying the resulting outputs and operating characteristics.
System-level testing
Exercises the finished product or integrated system as a whole, confirming that assembled subsystems operate together as intended.
Test strategy
Coverage matched to product risk
Cygnus can work with customers to determine the appropriate combination of in-circuit, functional and system testing based on product complexity, volume, test access, required coverage and product risk.
